The Toronto Film Critics Association has named The Zone of Interest as its pick for the best picture of the year.
All of Us Strangers and Killers of the Flower Moon were runners-up in the voting, which took place Sunday. Jonathan Glazer also picked up the best director trophy for Zone of Interest, the harrowing Holocaust drama.
Runners-up were Martin Scorsese for Killers of the Flower Moon, followed by Justine Triet with the crime thriller Anatomy of a Fall. Glazer’s drama about the comfortable lives of an Auschwitz commandant’s family seized the spotlight in Cannes, where it won the Grand Prix and FIPRESCI prize, and was then chosen by BAFTA to represent the U.K. in the category formerly known as best foreign language film at the Oscars.
