A beauty salon is an establishment that provides cosmetic services for women or men or both. Services in a beauty salon may include, but aren't limited to: facials, manicures, pedicures, massages, and hair styling. While technically there is a difference between hair salons and beauty salons, many businesses offer both types of services. Depending on the size of the business and its staff, a patron may or may not need to make an appointment.

Beauty salons are often considered a luxury service, provided primarily to improve a person's look and their own comfort. A manicure is a common service for both men and women, in which fingernails are filed, shaped and polished. Some manicures also feature a softening solution or lotion for the hands. A pedicure is essentially the same as a manicure, except it is performed on the feet and toenails.

A facial is a treatment that helps exfoliate, soften and moisturize the skin on the face. There are many different types of facials, including masks, peels, massages, and lotions. Full body massages are another common service offered by beauty salons. Massages can help to relieve tension and promote a sense of well being. Most salons will also apply lotions and other products during a massage that will promote good skin health.
